GEARS OF WAR: THE MOVIE! ‘Universal Acquires Rights’ (Film News)

I think a handful of us saw this coming. But today it has been officilly confirmed!

During the Gears of War Live broadcast, The Coalition Studio Head Rod Fergusson announced that Universal Pictures has optioned motion picture rights to Microsoft Studios’ iconic “Gears of War” franchise, based on the Xbox video game series.

Here is what we know so far.

Scott Stuber (“Ted” series, “Central Intelligence”) and Dylan Clark (“Planet of the Apes” series, “Oblivion”) will produce for their Universal-based Bluegrass Films. In addition, Executive Vice President of Production Jon Mone will oversee the project for Universal and Senior Vice President Jay Ireland will oversee for Bluegrass.”

I’m curious if the characters from the franchise will be the main focus? If so, will they just be thrown in randomly like the characters in the Resident Evil films? (God, I hope not…) Could this actually be the first good video game film? Or will it sit alongside Warcraft as just mediocre? Let us know down below!
